Oppelskop
Route Description
Overview:
Hiking up Oppelskop, a lesser-known trail on Table Mountain, offers a peaceful and scenic escape from Cape Town’s busier routes. The trail begins near Deer Park and winds its way up through indigenous fynbos and rocky outcrops, gradually revealing sweeping views of the city, Table Bay, and Devil’s Peak. The path is moderately challenging, with a steady incline and a few steeper sections, making it ideal for hikers with a decent fitness level.
Along the way, expect to encounter unique plant life, occasional dassies, and bursts of birdsong in the quieter stretches. At the summit, the panoramic views are breathtaking—perfect for a well-earned rest and photos. .
Weather:
Be prepared for changing weather with a light mid-layer and rain jacket, ensuring comfort throughout your adventure.
Early morning or late afternoon hikes are recommended during the summer months to avoid the midday heat. In winter, clear days are ideal, but be cautious of slippery paths after rain.
Good to know:
Oppelskop is a fantastic choice for those seeking a more tranquil, off-the-beaten-track Table Mountain experience with rewarding vistas and a deep connection to nature. Oppelskop does not go all the way up to the Table Mountain Summit, but instead have a small dome-shaped bump on the front of Table Mountain just under Devil's Peak
