Kasteelspoort
Route Description
Overview:
Kasteels Poort is one of the most scenic and rewarding hiking routes on Table Mountain, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Camps Bay, and the rugged landscape of the Cape Peninsula. The trail takes you through a combination of steep ascents, rocky paths, and diverse flora, showcasing the natural beauty of Table Mountain’s sandstone cliffs and the fynbos vegetation. This route is ideal for adventurous hikers looking for a less crowded alternative to the more popular trails.
Weather:
Be prepared for changing weather with a light mid-layer and rain jacket, ensuring comfort throughout your adventure.
Early morning or late afternoon hikes are recommended during the summer months to avoid the midday heat. In winter, clear days are ideal, but be cautious of slippery paths after rain.
Good to know:
The Kasteelspoort hike passes by the site of an old steam engine cableway that was assembled in the 1890. Along the trail, you'll encounter iconic landmarks such as the Diving Board rock formation and the remnants of old cableway structure
