Perdekop via
Mont Rochelle

Route Description

Overview:

The Perdekop Trail is a circular route that begins at the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve entrance on the Franschhoek Pass. The hike ascends steadily through diverse fynbos landscapes, offering panoramic views of the Wemmershoek Valley and, on clear days, Table Mountain to the west.

The trail passes notable landmarks such as Breakfast Rock and Uitkyk Viewpoint before reaching the summit at Perdekop Peak, marked by a prominent stone cairn.

The descent includes a steep section into the Du Toit's River gorge, followed by a challenging climb back up, leading hikers back to the starting point.

Weather:
Be prepared for changing weather with a light mid-layer and rain jacket, ensuring comfort throughout your adventure.

Early morning or late afternoon hikes are recommended during the summer months to avoid the midday heat. In winter, clear days are ideal, but be cautious of slippery paths after rain.

Good to know:

The hike is steep and involves scrambling over rocks. Perdekop is also the highest peak in the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve at 1,575 meters, offering some of the most stunning 360° views of the Franschhoek Valley and beyond — so the tough climb is truly worth it!
